Simulation only 📋 Changelog v1.2.8

Changelog

Every fix, feature, and flourish, newest first.

v1.2.8 "Sharp Dressed Site" Improvement
  • The homepage hero now shows a live VATSIM network snapshot - pilots online, ATC online, supervisors, and admins - pulled fresh each time you load the page. No need to open the VATSIM page just to check if anyone's flying.
  • Tool cards on the homepage have been redesigned: icons are pinned to the left, text is left-aligned, and each active tool now has a small green indicator dot in the corner to show it's live.
  • JetBrains Mono is now the site-wide typeface, replacing the previous mix of Arimo, Courier New, and Segoe UI across every page and component.
v1.2.7 "Somebody's Home" New Feature
  • The Airport Info page now shows a VATSIM Online badge in the header whenever at least one of the airport's frequencies has a controller on it. No more scrolling down to the frequency cards to check - if anyone's home, you'll know the moment the results load.
  • No controllers, no badge. Clean and quiet, just how it should be.
v1.2.6 "One Click From the Gate" New Feature
  • The Airport Info page now has SimBrief Orig and SimBrief Dest buttons sitting right alongside the METAR, Website, and Wikipedia links. Look up an airport, decide you want to fly there, file a plan - without ever touching the keyboard again.
v1.2.5 "Where Are We Going?" New Feature
  • The VATSIM status page now has SimBrief shortcut buttons on every ATC row. See a busy airport, fancy flying there? Hit Orig or Dest and SimBrief opens with the ICAO already filled in. Two clicks to a flight plan. You're welcome.
  • The ICAO is pulled straight from the callsign, so EGCC_APP becomes EGCC without you having to squint at it and type anything. Technology, doing its job.
v1.2.4 "Accordion to Plan" UI
  • The About page got an accordion makeover. All tool entries now collapse by default so you're not scrolling past a wall of text to find the one you care about
  • Click any section header to expand it, or hit "Expand All" to throw the doors open and read everything. The button is polite enough to say "Collapse All" once you do
  • Added a proper entry for the Bad Weather Finder - it was doing great work with zero acknowledgement on the About page. That injustice has been corrected
v1.2.3 "Bits and Bobs" Housekeeping
  • A round of general tidying up, file organisation, and formatting fixes. Nothing glamorous, but the kind of thing that prevents future us from screaming
  • Various small improvements across the codebase. The iceberg of maintenance work - mostly invisible, entirely necessary
v1.2.2 "Cookie Monster, Tamed" Bug Fix
  • Browsers were throwing a tantrum over an analytics cookie with an "invalid domain" - we gave it an explicit cookie_domain: 'auto' and now everyone's happy
  • No more cryptic console errors, no more cookies wandering into the wrong neighbourhood
v1.2.1 "Footer, Put Together" UI
  • Fixed the footer on mobile so the Changelog button no longer falls off the edge of the screen
  • The bug and feedback invite text now sits neatly above the buttons instead of getting squished beside them
v1.2.0 "Weather or Not, Here We Come" New Feature
  • Bad Weather Finder is officially open for business! No more velvet rope, no more "Coming Soon" badge of shame
  • Tell it you want punishing crosswinds or visibility so bad you can't see your own hand, and it'll find you an airport worthy of the challenge
  • Optional VATSIM ATC filter so you can suffer with a controller on the frequency. Misery loves company
  • Powered by live Where2Fly data, real METARs, real conditions, real regrets
v1.1.14 "Please Don't File a Flight Plan With This" UI
  • Added a friendly ⚠ disclaimer to make absolutely, definitively, unambiguously clear that Flying Tools is for simulation only. We're sure you knew that. We're equally sure someone didn't.
  • On the homepage it gets the full hero treatment - amber, bold, unmissable. On every other page it quietly lives in the top bar, watching over you like a responsible co-pilot.
v1.1.13 "Breathing Room" UI
  • The hero banner finally got the memo. It now lines up with the card grid on desktop and the mascot got a glow-up (slightly bigger, much more confident)
  • Cards and footer are no longer uncomfortably close. A proper gap has been inserted so they can breathe and maintain appropriate personal space
v1.1.12 "Three's Company" UI
  • Home page tool grid now displays 3 columns on desktop for a more spacious layout
v1.1.11 "Words, But Better" Improvements
  • Minor text formatting improvements across tool descriptions. Nothing dramatic, just things that were quietly bothering us.
v1.1.10 "This Very Page" New Feature
  • Added this changelog - you're reading it right now. The version number in the top bar is now a link to it. Very meta. We're proud of it.
v1.1.9 "No More Frequency Fumbling" Bug Fix
  • Fixed a bug where 8.33 kHz channel spacing wasn't being handled correctly. Your radio frequencies are safe to decode again. 📻
v1.1.7 – v1.1.8 "Polished to a Shine" Improvements
  • Tidied up the footer layout and homepage presentation for a cleaner, sharper look. The kind of polish you notice without knowing what changed.
v1.1.6 "The One With the Formatting Fix" Bug Fix
  • Squashed a layout formatting issue that was subtly messing with the visual flow. You probably noticed. We definitely did.
v1.1.5 "Fresh Coat of Paint" UI
  • Gave the hero section at the top of the page a refreshed look. First impressions matter, especially at 35,000 ft.
v1.1.4 "Identity Update" UI / Content
  • Branding refreshes and text tweaks across the site. Flying Tools is growing into itself.
v1.1.3 "Everything in Its Right Place" Improvements
  • Fixed card ordering on the homepage so tools appear in a more logical sequence. No more rummaging around to find what you need.
v1.1.2 "Footer, Stay Down!" Bug Fix
  • Fixed a floating footer that refused to stay at the bottom where footers belong. It has been spoken to.
v1.1.1 "Quiet Improvements" Under the Hood
  • Improved background error handling so things fail more gracefully when they need to. You may never notice, and that's the point.
v1.1.0 "Speak Up!" New Feature
  • Introduced the Feedback tool. Got an idea? Spotted something broken? Just want to say hi? There's now a proper place to do that. The NaughtyGnome is all ears (and reads every submission).
  • Paired with the Roadmap so accepted ideas can be tracked publicly.
v1.0.5 "Lost? We've Got You" New Feature
  • Replaced the default browser 404 error with a custom page. Wandering into the void is a lot nicer when there's somewhere friendly to land.
v1.0.1 – v1.0.4 "Growing Pains" Housekeeping
  • A run of deployment fixes, stability patches, and general tidying-up as Flying Tools found its feet after launch. The unglamorous work that makes everything else possible.
